Turns out, Pittsburgh salon assistant isn’t a bad way to start a career. How did I go from there to Corporate Haircolor Consultant and working NYC salon colorist? Follow the dots.

Moving On Up

Doing the Corporate Climb

Screw up my sister’s highlights while still in beauty school, Learn imbibing and coloring don’t mix.

Assist, train others, come in early, stay late…build a clientele.

Botch a perm, my first month on the floor.  Do penance with lots of free treatments.

Switch to haircolor

Train at IT&LY Hairfashion. Reach Artistic Director level.

Learn real-world color in the backroom trenches. Women notice when you add a “cap” of new color into their formula.

Transplant self to NYC. Twin myself to chemists. End up spearheading the testing and technical execution of Redken haircolor and lighteners.
